The Cité des Métiers and training fair proves popular

The “Cité des métiers et de la formation” fair 2009, the third edition following those held in 2001 and 2006, was organized by a tripartite association of the same name consisting of the Department of public education, Union of Genevan employer associations (UAPG) and the Geneva Community of trade union action (CGAS) and is supported by numerous sponsors. It broke all its records, with 70,548 electronically counted admissions.

This edition was the first to be held without a parallel event (Geneva Fair), and without the schoolchildren of Fribourg and Valais, who now have their own exhibition. But that didn’t prevent it from breaking all its records, with 70,548 admissions counted electronically by Palexpo's bar-code ticketing system.

While 27,000 pupils from the canton of Geneva (from 6th to 10th grade) were transported from their respective schools by special buses laid on by the Geneva Public Transport Authority (TPG), nearly 3,000 came from all over French-speaking Switzerland, including one class from Chaux-de-Fonds!

Nearly 40,500 visitors flocked to the two late-closing days and at the weekend!
At the weekend a number of young people came back with their parents and even a schoolteacher with part of his class.

On the 25,000 sq. metres of Palexpo’s Hall 6, the exhibitors noted a strong presence from all over French-speaking Switzerland and the Rhône-Alps stand welcomed the presence of many French people.

The fashion shows, prize awards, presentations and the programme "The little zebras" of RSR1 La Première took place in front of a compact crowd filling the whole of the Agora’s 800 sq. metres.

Through the voice of its president, Roland Andrey, “The association wishes to thank the school managements, schoolteachers, the TPG, the police, municipal officers, the exhibitors and the many young people present both on the stands and in the competition areas.”
