...An original square

Originally, the square - the village square, that is - was a place where people gathered, where they met to debate, discuss and obtain information. Often one could also do one’s shopping at the market on the square and find some bargains there. It was a lively and convivial place.

It’s the same frame of mind that the organizers of “Place des Affaires” wanted to recreate at this still-young event. The sixth edition, which will be held in Hall 7 of Palexpo, from February 1 to 5, 2010, will not fail to strengthen it!

This annual fair, which enjoys an original place in the agenda of regional socio-economic events, is pinning its nascent success on the involvement of all its players, be they service providers, privileged partners, exhibitors, advertisers or even visitors. The instrument now exists, it is becoming established, it will change in line with the impulses, determination and character with which it will be endowed.

Daring to be different and affirm one’s tradition, understanding that the new economy will be swept aside by that of tomorrow, being proud of one’s assets and yet able to call oneself into question, understanding that together we’re much stronger than alone, opening up geographical, intellectual and even spiritual borders, persevering and believing in one’s projects, these are some of the avenues on which to rely so that the actions which govern our working lives take on their full meaning and take off.

Sustainable development and its components form an integral part of “Place des Affaires” thanks in particular to FEDRE (European Foundation for the Sustainable Development of the Regions), which has been a partner since the very beginning and which is centering its annual forum - held during Place des Affaires 2010 - on the vast theme of “eco-energy”.

By becoming “Pavillon de France”, with the cooperation of the French Chambers of Commerce and by receiving Iran as Guest of Honour, Place des Affaires, vintage 2010, is demonstrating its determination to open up to the international economy. Isn’t that in fact the natural role of Geneva?

In addition to stimulating business, as should ideally be done at the beginning of the year, we would like, as for the previous editions, to encourage the players of the socio-economic world to sharpen curiosities, critical minds and openness, in a resolutely constructive, optimistic and always-inquiring spirit!
